Finalist: Aperture Club Competition: A Sense of Place
Updated: May 31, 2020
This is a very special photo for me. I was visiting Yufuin in Kyushu, Japan. Rain was pouring, and I could barely move without getting soaked. I found a shelter and started looking at the passerbys. There was a big yellow teddy in the taxi. I don't know why, but I thought it would make great background if only the right people would pass. Then this lovely couple passed, representing the mix of new and old of Japan.
I sent it to a few professional. They all commented that the blending of photos was not realistic, that I did not pose the people right, that the story was not complete. What they all failed to realise that this was a street photo with no post processing. So I got really excited when it was selected as a finalist, by the judges in the Aperture Club (https://theapertureclub.com.au/) who recognised the spontaneous nature of the photo.
